48 HOURS

The Run N Gun 48hr Film Competition starts on the Friday of competition weekend at 7pm. All films must be written, shot, edited and submitted within the 48 hours allotted. In order to ensure this, each filmmaker must incorporate…

SURPRISE ELEMENTS!

To keep this competition true to the 48hr format each team will be given three random elements at the start of the 48 hours. These elements could be anything from an object, line of spoken dialogue, character, theme etc. If one of the elements includes a prop, the prop must be on screen for a minimum of 5 consecutive seconds.

The effective use of these elements will be part of the judging process, and failure to include these elements will result in disqualification.

There will be a MANDATORY DIRECTORS MEETING (via YouTube Live) on the Friday of Competition at 6pm where you can ask questions and the surprise elements will be revealed. The private link will be given to you after you’ve signed up for the competition.

Each team must submit a liability form prior to filming for the competition.

Finished films must be delivered by the Sunday of Competition at 7:00pm. Late submissions will not be considered for prizes. Deliveries will be done online; this may need to be factored into teams’ 48hr timeline.

Late entries will be reviewed and *may* be shown at the event but they are ineligible to win prizes.

All genres are encouraged at this festival! Make what makes you happy! Marie Kondo your filmmaking! F*ck around and find out!

Completed films must be UNDER four minutes & 30 seconds, including credits. Anything over 4:30 will not be shown. We want to show as many films as possible; keep it short and sweet.

You may not show the completed film publicly prior to the public screenings.

  • Writing of the Script

  • Costume/Set Design

  • Shooting

  • Editing

  • Sound Design

  • Rendering

  • Output to finished video file

  • Delivery of finished film

Stock footage / AI Policy

Due to the nature of the it being a 48 hour film competition we limit stock footage and fully generated AI shots of any type to 10 seconds max. Everything else in your movie must be created within 48 hours. (Background plates can be used for longer)

Music / Clearances

We encourage you all to create music and find music you have cleared for your Run N Gun film. Same thing with art etc. By submitting your film we are assuming you’ve got your music and art is cleared accordingly. That we are a busy film competition, we put the responsibility and liability on you.

Prize

  • Each award winner will receive an official Run N Gun Plaque.

  • The prize pool is a growing prize pool based on the number of entries and sponsors. Prizes will include cash prizes, rental credits, and more!

  • This competition is not for profit. The more people who enter, the bigger the prizes get.

Jury

An outside panel will select the top films based on quality & entertainment value. This panel will consist of film-savvy industry pros not related or involved in the competition.

The jury will rate each film on how well they use their 48 hour elements as well as craft categories. The jury totals are added up using ranked ballot voting, ensuring that the winners are decided using math, instead of a jury that votes based on the loudest voice in the room. All tie breakers go to the film that uses the best of the 48 hour elements.

— Annabel Maclean (Best Actress BNG 2018)
As an actress I had so much fun shooting a Run N Gun movie. The unknown and having to be prepared for anything in moments notice was exhilarating. Would definitely do it again!
— Katerina Corleone Ptolemaios Kochanska (actress)
A great experience overall, loved having an excuse to just make something without overthinking it!
